Olivia Watters, Shareholder
Olivia began her career in Illinois and has been defending doctors, dentists, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities in both Illinois and Missouri since 2006. She is a student of CMS regulations, particularly involving Patients’ Rights and Nursing Services requirements, and has authored practice bulletins and client updates on various sections of 42 CFR §483. In addition to her defense of hospitals and senior service providers, she has unique experience counseling and defending ancillary service providers and dental / orthodontic practices.
Although she studies a broad range of medical conditions and maladies, she has a recognized concentration in skin breakdown and woundcare. Beginning in 2006, CMS began characterizing some pressure sores as “never events,” meaning errors in medical care that do not occur absent negligence. Integumentary compromise in critically ill patients is complex, however. Olivia has successfully litigated numerous cases of skin breakdown caused by diminished circulation in immobile patients, developing medical-based evidence that some wounds are inevitable and occur absent provider negligence. She consults with and defends various providers of senior care services on these issues, as well as two multi-state hospital systems.
